Alexandra Grant's Winning Shortbread Recipe:

Ingredients
1 cup butter (softened)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
2 cups flour, preferably cake flour
2 teaspoons sugar
Directions
In a large bowl, cream butter with brown sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy.  With rubber spatula gradually stir in flour, just until blended.  Divide the dough in half.  On the center of an ungreased cookie sheet, pat each half into a smooth, even circle.  Bake in preheated 325 degree oven for 25 to 30 minutes.  Sprinkle each with 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar.
